These Werewolf or Bear Paw Chocolate Pretzels are definitely worth making. They combine crunchy pretzels, creamy chocolate, and sliced almonds to create little paws that look like they came straight from a werewolf or bear!
I love recipes because the pretzel shape works perfectly for paws and the sliced almonds become the claws. A little piped chocolate creates the paw pads, and a few scrapes with a fork give everything a furry, rough texture.
And if you’re not making these for a werewolf-themed Halloween, you can easily turn them into bear paws instead. They would be fun for a woodland-themed party, camping-inspired treat table, or just a fun snack for the kids.
This recipe is also a fun companion to my Werewolf Chocolate Covered Sandwich Cookies or the Peanut butter Werewolf Cookies from my recipe book A Wicked Cookie Collection. If you’re making those cookies for Halloween, why not add a few werewolf paws to the table too? Together, they make a cute and spooky little dessert collection.

These Werewolf paws use a little piped chocolate and a few scrapes with a fork give you furry, rough and treat.
What Makes These Werewolf Paws So Fun?
The easy to create details are what really make these pretzels come together.
The chocolate coating gives the pretzels a rich, sweet flavor that pairs perfectly with the salty crunchy pretzels. Then you add the almond claws and chocolate paw pads, and suddenly you have a little werewolf paw sitting on your parchment paper.
Adding the texture.
To me scraping the chocolate the best part and you get to eat the shavings. You get to use a fork to scrape around the chocolate gives the paws a rough, furry appearance. You don’t have to make the texture perfectly even. The messier it looks, the more wild and furry the paws feel!
Werewolf Paws or Bear Paws?
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that you’re not limited to one theme.
For Halloween, these make adorable werewolf paws and pair perfectly with other spooky treats. You could serve them alongside my Werewolf Chocolate Covered Sandwich Cookies for a fun matching dessert spread.
But you can also leave off the spooky theme and call them bear paws.
A bear themed party, woodland birthday, camping sleepover, or animal-themed celebration would be a perfect excuse to make them. You could even make both versions and let everyone decide whether they’re eating a werewolf paw or a bear paw!

How to Make Werewolf Chocolate Covered Sandwich Cookies
These cookies are made in two main stages: baking the cookies and preparing the chocolate ganache filling. The cookies are piped into fun shapes, chilled before baking, and then sandwiched together with a rich ganache.
Follow the instructions below carefully for the best results.
Instructions:

- Step 1: Melt the Chocolate and Coating the Pretzels Place 3 ounces of the brown chocolate melts into a microwave safe bowl.
- Heat the chocolate for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each interval.heat and stir the chocolate until it’s completely melted and smooth.
- Dip each pretzel into the melted chocolate, make sure the pretzel is completely covered. Use a fork to carefully lift the pretzel from the chocolate. Don’t shake off the excess chocolate. You actually want that chocolate to remain on the pretzel because it creates the base of your paw design.
- Place the chocolate covered pretzels onto parchment paper and allow them to sit for about 5–6 minutes.
- Step 2: Add the Almond Claws If the chocolate remaining in your bowl has started to harden, place it back into the microwave for about 15 seconds and stir.
- Dip four sliced almonds into the melted chocolate, one at a time. Place the chocolate-covered almond slices onto the back of the rounded end of the pretzel.Try to line up the almonds so they resemble four little claws.
- Let the pretzels continue to dry for another 3 minutes.

- Step 3: Creating the Paw Pads Next, melt the white chocolate melts and the remaining brown chocolate melts together. Follow the same process as before.Once melted, transfer the chocolates into piping bags and cut a small opening at the end of the bag.
- Pipe four small dots of chocolate directly above the sliced almond claws.
- Then pipe a larger triangle with rounded edges onto the lower portion of the pretzel. This will become the main paw pad. Don’t worry about getting the shape perfectly symmetrical.
- While the chocolate is still wet, place a small piece of parchment paper over the chocolate and let it sit for about 3 minutes. Carefully remove the parchment paper.
- Step 4: Add the Furry Texture Now comes the part that really transforms the chocolate pretzel into a werewolf paw.
- Then take a fork and gently scrape around the chocolate covered portion of the pretzel. The fork will create little lines and rough edges that give the chocolate a furry appearance.
- You can make the texture as subtle or dramatic as you like. Since these are supposed to be werewolf paws, a little messy is completely fine!
- Once you’ve finished adding the fur, your werewolf cookies are ready to serve!

TMI TIPs for Baking:
Keep your chocolate warm. If the chocolate begins to thicken while you’re working, warm it in the microwave for about 15 seconds and stir.
Don’t skip the extra chocolate. When removing the pretzels from the melted chocolate, leave some of the excess chocolate on them. It helps create the surface you’ll use for the paw design.
Use a small opening in your piping bagKeep the opening on your piping bag small . This gives you better control when creating the little paw pads and dots.
Give the almonds a little time to set. Letting the chocolate covered almonds sit for a few minutes before adding the rest of the design will help keep the claws in place.
Use the freezer when needed. If you’re working in a warm kitchen or simply want the chocolate to set faster, you can place the pretzels in the freezer for a short amount of time.

Storage
These pretzels are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container.
Keep them in a COOL, dry place up to 4 days.
If you’re making them ahead for a Halloween party, you can prepare them the day before and store them in an airtight container until you’re ready to serve them.
