This isn’t your typical bowl of muddy buddies. Instead of stopping with chocolate and powdered sugar, I’m turning the whole Halloween scene. Think chocolate covered Chex mix, crushed Oreo “dirt,”, little marshmallows, colorful Halloween sprinkles, chocolate skeleton pieces scattered across the topped gummy worms crawling through the mix
Its a Graveyard you can eat! and that’s exactly why it’s so much fun.
I love recipes like this for Halloween because they don’t need to look perfect. In fact, the more random everything looks, the better. A gummy worm poking out from underneath the Chex.. Perfect. A skeleton hand that cracks when you take it out of the mold.. Even better. A little extra Oreo dirt in one corner Keep it.
This is one of those treats where you can really have fun with the decorating.

These Grave Yard Muddy Buddies are a snack that’s a little creepy, a little messy, and a whole lot of fun.
What are Muddy Buddies?
If you’ve never made muddy buddies before, they’re a sweet snack made by coating cereal with melted chocolate and powdered sugar.
The result is crunchy, chocolatey, sweet, treat that is incredibly easy to make snack . Its even better to snack on. For this Halloween version, I’m adding crushed Oreos to give the mixture a darker, dirtier look. The crushed cookies are what really help turn this from regular muddy buddies into a spooky graveyard-inspired treat.
Once everything is mixed together, you can add your favorite creepy candies and Halloween decorations to make it your own.
What You Need to Make Grave Yard Muddy Buddies
For the base of the Graveyard Muddy Buddies, you’ll need 10 ounces of original Chex Mix, brown melting chocolate, powdered sugar, and crushed Oreos.
The brown chocolate gives the Chex its rich chocolate coating while the powdered sugar creates that classic muddy buddies finish. The crushed Oreos are the extra touch that makes everything look like dark graveyard dirt.
For the fun stuff, you’ll need mini marshmallows, gummy worms, eye sprinkles, and a Halloween sprinkle mix.The skeleton decorations are made separately using white melting chocolate. You’ll pipe the chocolate into a skeleton hand and head mold, then chill them until they’re firm.

How to Make Cookies and Cream Grave Yard Muddy Buddies
Follow the instructions below carefully for the best results.
Instructions:

- Start by crushing your Oreo cookies. You can use a food processor if you want a fine crumb, but you don’t need any special equipment. My other method is placing the cookies inside a zip lock bag and crushing them with a can .You can make the crumbs as fine or chunky as you like. I actually prefer having a few larger pieces mixed in instead of it looking completely uniform.
- Set your crushed Oreos aside while you work on the chocolate. Place your brown melting chocolate into a microwave-safe bowl. Melt the chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval. Continue until the chocolate is completely smooth and liquid.
- Pour your Chex Mix into a large bowl and pour the melted chocolate over it.
- Using a spatula, gently mix everything together until the cereal is coated in chocolate. Try to stir carefully so you don’t completely crush the cereal.
- Now add your powdered sugar and crushed Oreos.
- Give everything another good mix until the powdered sugar and cookie crumbs cover the chocolate coated cereal. This is where the mixture really starts to look like graveyard dirt.
- Pour the chocolate covered Chex mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper. Spread it out into a single layer as much as possible and allow it to dry.

- While you’re waiting, you can work on the skeleton decorations. For the skeleton decorations, melt your white chocolate using the same 30 second intervals you used for the brown chocolate. Transfer it into a piping bag. Cut a very small opening at the tip of the bag and carefully pipe the chocolate into your skeleton hand and head mold.
- Once the molds are filled, place them in the freezer for about 5 minutes, or until the chocolate has hardened.
- Carefully remove the chocolate pieces from the molds. Do not stress about if a skeleton hand breaks or a piece comes out looking a little rough. Those broken pieces can actually make the graveyard look even creepier.
- This is also a good time to get all of your gummy worms, marshmallows, sprinkles, and other decorations ready.
- Once the muddy buddy mixture has dried, it’s time for the fun part. Add your mini marshmallows, gummy worms, eye sprinkles, and Halloween sprinkle mix directly to the Chex mixture. You want the candies spread throughout the mixture rather than sitting in one spot. The gummy worms should look like they’re crawling through the dirt.
- Transfer the finished mixture into your serving dish. Now take your chocolate skeleton hands and heads and randomly place them throughout the top.
- Let some of the skeleton pieces sit partially underneath the muddy buddies. Have a hand sticking out here and there. Make It Even Creepier. Serve and Enjoy!

TMI TIPs for Making these Cookies and Cream grave Yard Muddy Buddies:
Use a large bowl and Don’t Over mix. Give yourself plenty of room to mix the Chex with. A larger bowl makes it much easier to coat everything without making a mess. Once you add the candy and decorations, gently fold everything together. You want to keep the Chex crunchy and avoid crushing the cereal.
Don’t rush the chocolate. Melt the chocolate in 30 second intervals and stir between each one. Melting it slowly helps keep the chocolate smooth and prevents it from getting overheated.
Make the piping hole tiny. When decorating the skeleton molds, start with a very small opening in your piping bag. You can always make the opening larger. A small opening also gives you better control over the chocolate going in the mold.
Have fun with the graveyard. There really isn’t a wrong way to decorate this snack. Let gummy worms peek out of the “dirt,” place skeleton hands at different angles, and scatter the sprinkles throughout. The messier it looks, the better! And add whatever can you like including Candy eyeballs, gummy spiders, chocolate pieces, candy pumpkins, and other Halloween treats can all be added to increase the creepy factor.

Storage
These muddy buddies are best enjoyed fresh, especially while the cereal is still crunchy. If you have leftovers, place them in an airtight container and keep them in a cool, dry place for up to 4 days.
